Gmail does not have a built-in way to directly open or import EML files into your inbox. The only way to open EML files in your Gmail inbox is to use a third-party email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird to import the EML files into your Gmail inbox.
In this article, I will show you how to use Mozilla Thunderbird to import and open EML files in Gmail.

Step 1 – Download And Install Mozilla Thunderbird
1 – Go to the official Thunderbird homepage and click on the “free download” button.

2 – Open the setup file when it has finished downloading and go through the installation process.
3 – When the installation is complete check the “open Mozilla thunderbird now” box and click on the “finish” button.

Step 2 – Connect Your Gmail Account To Thunderbird
1 – In the account setup tab enter your full name along with your email address and password for the Gmail account that you want to connect to, then click continue.

2 – Select the IMAP configuration and then click done.

3 – A new window will open in your default browser asking you to log into your Gmail account. Enter your account password and then click the “sign-in” button.

4 – On the next page, click on the “allow” button to give Thunderbird the access it needs to your Gmail account.

Step 3 – Drag And Drop The EML File From Your Computer To Your Gmail Inbox in Thunderbird
1 – Click on the first tab in ThunderBird.

2 – In the list of folders to the left of the screen, click on the inbox folder located under your email address.

3 – On your computer open the folder where the EML file or files are located.

4 – Select all the EML files that you would like to open in Gmail.
5 – While the files are selected left-click and hold then drag the files and drop them in the thunderbird inbox area.

6 – Locate the imported EML file within Thunderbird to make sure it was successfully imported. It will be placed in your inbox as an email in chronological order.

Step 4 – Open The Imported Email In Gmail.
1 – Go to your Gmail inbox
2 – Locate the email that was imported as an EML file. (In Gmail the EML file will appear as a new email at the top of the email list)

3 – Open the email to read it within Gmail.
